No More Mr. Nice Christian

We have tried to be nice.

We have tried to inoffensively, softly, and almost apologetically present a nice, Christian message to our country.

For 50 years we have shrunken back from calling sin “sin,” in the hope that the culture will like us and see its need for Christ.

And 50 years later, our Christian niceness has left us with a country and culture that now celebrates the sins of gay marriage, abortion, and the selling of butchered baby body parts. Our Christian niceness has left us with a country that has turned brazenly against Christ.

So, since the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 26th decision to desecrate God’s sacred institution of marriage, I have been taking an action that is clearly not nice; something that may well offend even my Catholic/Christian brothers and sisters.

I have been walking the sides of Pittsburgh’s very busy McKnight Road with a sign that reads “Jesus Loves You” on one side and “Gay Marriage is Sin” on the other.

Because it is the Truth of the Word of God.

Because I want to see every gay person on the planet turn from the sin of gay sex, embrace Jesus, and go to heaven.

Because I don’t want our children to grow up in a culture that – everywhere – tells them that sin is not sin.

And because our country desperately needs a Christianity beyond our “Nice-Guy” Church.

Yes, we must love all people – ALL people – with the love of Christ. But love is not always nice. Sometimes, it must be tough. Even the love of Christ.

Jesus loves immensely. But He was not afraid to offend people with words like “[W]hoever does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:18b) And “[W]hoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God.” (Luke 12:9b)

That is tough love. And without it, our country has come to celebrate the notion that two men having sex with each other is as holy as God’s sacred institution of marriage.

We must love ALL people. But it is also time to stand up and fight boldly for our God, our country, our children, and the souls of those who are lost to the sins of gay sex and gay marriage. I will do it; whether I am joined by 100,000 Christian men and women or whether I am walking the highway all by myself.

So, I carry my “Jesus Loves You / Gay Marriage is Sin” sign.

Come on out and join me. We’ll have church right up and down the sides of McKnight Road!

THE LORD IS A WARRIOR, LORD IS HIS NAME! (Exodus 15:3)
